It is suppose to shoot up with any tug of the line. With that being said strong current sets it off, kelp snagging the line sets it off and the right wind sets it off. But when a fish bits, it hooks it in the corner of the mouth. Perfect!

I just throw the line out in the water and set it and then go play with my kids. The fish sets off the rig and gets hooked and waits for me to reel it in. By itself the spring is strong but with a pole in the water and even a small fish it won't snap back to quickly.

First day used got a 6.5 lb carp. Its not huge but the fact of the matter is the carp took it and the hook setter keep it. Thats worth it for me.

Didn't think this rod holder would actually work but it works pretty good. Fun rod holder to use when you are messing around fishing. Hooks up ratio is about 8/10 times if you do it right.

I originally purchased these rod holders to get them to lay horizontal as opposed to the typical vertical rod holders. I was very skeptical about how the automatic hook set would work and opposed using it at first. Boy oh boy was I wrong. This thing worked like a charm! I hooked 7 large carp while fishing in the river and not one was lost due to an incorrect hook set. It was sturdy, held up to a 17lb carp. At one point I felt like I was cheating.

literally read all the reviews before buying and I wasnt dissapointed. They were mainly positive reviews and the rod stald/holder/fish hooker works as intended! As soon as I got my item in the mail i went to go and try it out, soon enough my rod was getting little nibbles. I waited a bit and then Fish ON!!! It was a small mouth bass!! Im pretty impressed with it and would highly reccomend to anyone who loves to go fishing or for beginners too!

Works like a charm for both big and small fish. Ive caught fish as small as perch to as large as salmon with this rod holders. I also have a fairly large rod but the adjustable strap allows me to fit it in perfectly. Although the success rate is not always perfect, it does it's job well enough and I can sit back and relax as automation does the job of setting the hook for me. I recommend this product.
